Specialized was founded in 1974 by a man named Mike Sinyard. After graduating college and being unsure of his future, Mike sold his VW Microbus and embarked on a cycling trip through Europe.

When Mike reached Milan, he met a girl who knew the legendary craftsman Cino Cinelli. Not wasting a minute, he bought himself a suit and arranged a meeting with Mr. Cinelli. Impressed with Mike's enthusiasm, the two came to an agreement that allowed Mike to import Mr. Cinelli's beautiful high-end components into the United States.

Mike immediately returned to California to meet the shipping boxes. To keep the components dry, he stored the boxes under his mobile home. Mike's first customers paid cash in advance and had to be within cycling distance, since he didn't have a car for the first 5 years of his business. This was just a small hurdle. Mike's dream of spending more time on a bike had certainly come true.

When Mike Sinyard started his company, he made a conscious decision to focus on high-end bike components. He imported rare products that were high in demand amongst enthusiasts. Mike named the company Specialized simply because it was how riders referred to high-end components at the time.

Specialized's mission is simple:

Be the brand of choice for discerning riders. Focus on the rider's need for functional and technically advanced products that provide a performance benefit. From seasoned pros and weekend warriors, to kids and comuters — if you ride, Specialized is for you.

No material's earned its keep on the downhill circuit like Specialized's M5 aluminum, and you can sum up all the reasons with stiffness, weight, and strength. That's why Specalized made their Demo 8 from it. Other than that, it's still the same bike that took four DH World Cup wins last year, and it's the same bike that'll carry Loïc Bruni's Rainbow Jersey across the line this season. Go ahead and beat it up—the Demo Alloy can take it.

Below you'll find an assortment of Specialized products. If you don't see what you're looking for or have questions, one of our sales associates would be more than happy to help! Please give us a call at (207) 701-5100.
